Extra, Extra! Pictures!

I have finally gotten enough time at the computer to post some pics from the commercial shoot we did with Shane Battier. I was kinda hoping they would preview those commercials already, but what can you do...

Anyway, here are a few of the pics I got there.

This one is my son in his Yao jersey and shorts.

This one is (from left) Bryce, Tia, Anne, and Dedrick.

Old School (above), Maya, and Roland.

The far left is a Rox employee, then there are Adam, Adam's girlfriend, Nahreesh, and Energy Boy.

The apparently obligatory RPD pic. This one is at the Spurs game. They are [insert] and Dedrick.

Beat the Spurs, beat the Spurs...

...was the battle cry last night. Every time we saw a Spurs jersey, we chanted and jeered the wearer's unfortunate choice of teams to root for. As usual, we had our normal crew of 30 or so chanting, yelling, and waving. The big difference was that this was for the Spurs, not the Bucks.

Unfortunately, we didn't see most of the Spurs starters as they played in Miami the night before and Duncan, Parker, Bowen, and Ginobili were not even in the arena. Five of the Rockets players scored in double figures, led by Yao Ming with 24 points in his 32 minutes of action. Yao was also a monster on the glass with 10 rebounds while TMac, Novak, and Battier each collected 6 boards. Novak had what was for him a sub-par night from distance, going 3-7 for 42%. As you would guess, we outclassed the Spurs second unit pretty much from the start and ended up beating them by 21.

The Red Rowdies were LOUD tonight. One thing to listen for if you are watching the game on TV is when Shane Battier has a hustle play or scores. We do our "Who's your daddy? BATTIER" chant and you can make it out pretty easily on the television. I went back to the tape (DVR actually) last night and was pleasently surprised at how noticable we were on the broadcast.

We also have a tradition we are starting with a "Rowdies Romp" through the lower and upper levels of the Toyota Center starting at 7 p.m. nightly. We walk through the concourse chanting, passing out high fives, and generally trying to increase the excitement in the arena. If you like, you are more than welcome to join us for our pre-game romp through the arena. If you see us coming by, feel free to join the parade and help us get the crowd PUMPED!!!

Bucks game, 10/18/06

Last night, the Rockets played the Bucks at Toyota Center and had a very nice game. Since they played the night before in Dallas, Tracy McGrady and Shane Battier did not play while Bonzi Wells also sat out for the fourth preseason game in a row as a result of a groin strain and two root canals. We started the game with Rafer Alston, Luther Head, Kirk Snyder, Scott Padgett, and Yao Ming. All five starters scored in double figures led by Yao with 22. In addition, two bench players, Vassilis (Billy) Spanoulis and Steve Novak, scored in double figures as well to propel the Rockets to a 111-97 victory. Other notable statistics included Padgett grabbing eight rebounds including four offensive boards, Spanoulis dishing out eight assists, and Novak making five out of his six three point shots to bring him to 50% 3-point shooting for the preseason.

The Rowdies were in force and loud, though we were a bit light for our before game walkthrough. Once again, we were featured on FSN and Bill and Clyde gave us compliments after the game. Our numbers were swelled last night by a large group of teenagers dressed in red (I can only assume that they were part of a school group). They were not all as loud as we were, but some of them were VERY enthusiastic and they seemed to follow along with our chants for the most part. Most importantly, they were all dressed in red and made our group look MUCH larger than it really is.

I will try to post some pictures once I get them pulled off of my camera, but until then, stay Rockets loud and Rockets proud!!!

W00t! Red Rowdies in the HOUSE!

The Red Rowdies (aka the "Rocket Rowdies") are the high-energy fans who bring the noise to the Toyota Center every night that the Houston Rockets play. The coach of the Rockets, Jeff Van Gundy, purchased 50 season tickets to be given away to the rowdiest fans they could find. On August 26th, they held auditions and picked the 30 people who best displayed the energy and enthusiasm that has been missing from the Toyota Center. (more coverage of the event)

Those of us who were lucky enough to win our tickets in August have already gotten two preseason games under our belts to warm up for the regular season and the praise has already started coming in. During both home games, Bill Worrell and Clyde Drexler (the TV announcers) have been very complimentary and have lauded our noise level and energy.

In addition, 10 tickets will be given out to fans outside the Toyota Center every night before the game and 10 will be used to upgrade hardcore fans from the upper levels to our section. Added to this, Tracy McGrady recently announced that he has purchased 20 tickets to be given out at Dave and Busters during an event on opening night, Wednesday, November 1st.

For those of you who come to games and would like to be a part of the Rowdies to some extent, we do a walk through of the Toyota Center concourse at 7 p.m. for most home games (30 minutes prior to game time for any early or late starts). We go around the entire arena chanting and yelling to help get the crowd into the mood before tipoff. If you would like to join us, meet up with us a half hour before game time at the LaBranch entrance (main entrance) inside the Toyota Center. We will be the ones dressed in red (duh). Jump on the bandwagon early and help us make some NOISE!!!
